Akira Kurosawa’s RAN

I was commissioned by AD Francis to create another alternative poster for this classic masterpiece, Akira Kurosawa’s RAN. We have been working on the series of Kurosawa’s masterpiece together for a few years now, and I’m very grateful for this opportunity.

RAN is truly the masterpiece, and certainly it’s one of the most memorable pieces from Kurosawa’s movies. I felt so pressure by the movie–it’s so happening. Also there’re already many great illustrations based on it, and I had to come up something fresh.

Ran means “disorderly, confusion, riot, chaos, disturb, etc.” I wanted to represent it by the movement of raging flames, smoke and clouds.

I certainly had fun cooking some ideas, inking and coloring it!! Thank you so much for this project, Francis.
