Title: Comfort Women
Description: Commissioned by the Korean American Association of Greater Atlanta to provide a piece for their Comfort Women Memorial unveiling. This piece is used for raise the awareness through the event and the organization. I understand this is historically and politically highly controversial in between Korean and Japanese government. I’m a half Korean and a half Japanese; they were very concerned possible internet trolls I might get after I decided to take this job. I understand many different opinions on this issue. I personally did research on it in both perspective, and came to the conclusion that it’s important to do this illustration.
Thumbnails… I thought it’s good to not to show an actual Asian woman because the comfort women were not just east Asian but in many skin colors and shapes… But the client represents Korean American community, so they liked to go for #4.
It symbolizes the freedom of the women’s burden. I hope this piece brings attentions and be a part of the collective force to bring them peace and hope.
Mockup for their t-shirt.
